Learn about Central Visayas (Negros Island) at the Trade Fair at Glorietta Ayala Malls, First Time Tubo and Piaya
I was planning this day to just have a pleasant “Mall” day shopping day at the Glorietta, part of the Ayala
Mall complex. Instead, what I found was unexpectedly – Negros Island Trade Fair.
Before I get a little more into the amazing find, there have been some changes in naming of this region of the Philippines.
In August of 2017, virtue of President Duterte’s order (EO 183), the name of this region will revert to Central Visayas. This won’t impact any of the traveling plans for viewing the amazing foods and sights. So in other words, just keep in mind the change of region name change.
The Negros Show at Glorietta Mall
This is a show (32nd) that is funded and marketed by the Negros Occidental Tourism DOT administration. The main purpose of this Trade Fair is help boost tourism of the Negros Occidental region. This was accomplished by highlighting the foods, furniture and masks of this mostly volcanic ash island.
By attending this free trade show, we have the opportunity to understand better about the many islands and regions of the Philippines. On display was many of the food products offered by local (micro, small and medium sized) enterprises. Also to help promote the province’s very rich culinary tourism. It’s not just about food of course, many of the booths had some amazing masks and furniture. Overall this was a great show and would definitely recommend it next time it’s comes around.
Some Negros Occidental Statistics
I must admit that I had very little knowledge of this region of the Philippines. To my amazement I found out that the DOT and Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) recently stated that Negros Occidental is the second most visited place in the country by domestic travelers.
Negros is the fourth largest island of the Philippines. Negros is one of the many islands that comprise the Visayas, which forms the central division of the nation.
Originally called Buglas, an old native word that is thought to mean cut off.
It’s most most famous export is Tubo or better known as Sugar Cane.
The capital is Bacolod City and the total population is over 2.9 million.
Foods that make this Piaya, Bacolod Chicken, Tubo and much more!
